A little bit of History
Most people assume that the stone tablet over the front door is the date stone, but in fact this just refers to the addition in1788 of the front rooms and frontage extending a much older building to join the line of the then new row of shops,
In 1386 land in Hedfeld between the two rivers was gifted by King Richard ll for a Church to be built .In a building close by Ale the staple drink in the middle ages, was brewed to raise revenue for the Church, on Feast Days you were only allowed on pain of fine to drink Church Ale .
In the Reign of Henry the Vlll this Ecclesiastical Inn was taken out of Church ownership and became The Bulls Head Inn.
The 1750 deeds of sale, show that The Bulls Head Inn still included a Brewhouse and Stables, all were sold for the princely sum of £80 which also included the Clay Archery Butts a tradition at which the Bulls Head Arrows Team are pre-eminent in its slightly less lethal form Darts
