Hayfield Singers.

A Spring Concert from the Hayfield Singers.

The Hayfield Singers have been getting into the spirit of Spring since the beginning of the year in preparation for their next concert. We hope by getting started so soon the results will make for a wonderful Spring event in St Matthew's Church in the middle of Hayfield. If you wish to make a diary note for a superb evening out then April 27th is the date and the concert will commence at the usual time of 7.30.

Tricia Howitt, the choir's regular director will be in control of everything and her committment, enthusiasm, and total musicianship ensure a spendid evenings music.

We move in a different direction this year with a semi staged performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's `Trial by Jury'. This biting Victorian satire can still bite today but oh what a joy it is. The choir have brought all their usual strict disciplines to the preparation but what fun they have had in bringing this work to life. With wonderful characters and excellent chorus it promises to be an uplifting and happy evening for everyone.

The concert begins though in more sombre mood as the choir present the `Five Negro Spirituals' from Michael Tippet's `A Child of our Time'. This is to be complimented with a performance of `Going Home' the largo theme from Dvorak's `New World Symphony'

So as you see, a packed evening of wonderful music and just the thing to get into Spring whatever the weather. We all look forward to seeing you there.

Hayfield Singers.
Founded by Tricia Howitt with help of Jonathon Holland in October 1992, The Hayfield Singers gave their first concert in St Matthews Church on December 18th of that year.

We regularly perform a Christmas and Spring concert each year with the occasional less formal concert in the Summer, (Beatles, African Songs and Madrigals) We perform choral works from Purcell and Bach to James MacMillan (incidentally our new Patron) with Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Brahms, Rossini, late English 19th Century music, Britten and Tippett along the way.

For most concerts the choir is joined by The Hayfield Ensemble, an orchestra of professional players mainly from the BBC Philharmonic.

We rehearse on Tuesdays at 8.00 in the church hall of St Matthew’s. New members are always welcome, no audition or previous experience is necessary.
All that you need is the ability to pitch, enthusiasm and commitment.
